SUMMARY:Philadelphia Weekly\: Editor's Pick
DESCRIPTION:Editor's Picks\nMUSIC\nAdrienne Young\nThurs.\, May 19\, 7pm. $16-$18. With Judd and Maggie. The Point\, 880 W. Lancaster Ave.\, Bryn Mawr. 610.527.0988. www.atthepoint.com\nThe banjo's coming back out\, which can only mean that summer's near. Adrienne Young's sun-scorched earth songs feel best in the late-August heat\, but this time around\, May will have to do. Hers has traditionally been a dusty\, rustic kind of folk-the kind you'd imagine Townes Van Zandt and Robert Earl Keen listening to as they passed a stiff Southern drink on the front porch. But her new album The Art of Virtue\, out June 28\, has much more of a Cajun Loos-iana feel than last year's sleeper debut Plow to the End of the Row. It's similar to her bluegrass roots-the dance steps are just a little trickier. Openers Judd and Maggie are a brother-and-sister duo from Maryland who've garnered a tremendous amount of press in Baltimore's City Paper. Though their songs are pretty typical singer/songwriter fare\, their soft\, airy harmonies play nicely against a sparse guitar-and-piano backdrop. (Jeffrey Barg)
