It's late Sunday night and it's been a full and rewarding week with highs, lows, and in-betweens. Two institutions that are the backbone of country music invited us to share our music this weekend and that's really something that makes a body feel good. Something extra-special. We played at the Old Joe Clark bluegrass festival last night which was quite an honor. Renfro Valley played a vital and pivitol role in the growth of bluegrass and country music during the early/mid 20th century, It is celebrating it's 64th birthday this year. Roy Lewis, of the infamous Lewis family, came out onstage with us and kicked out the most charged up version of Soul of Man we EVER have played! I'll get a picture of that up soon.
The best part of the week, however, was that my friends The Avett Brothers, stayed at the old homestead while they were here taking care of business. Little Sadie & I played the Opry Plaza this past Friday and they played it Sat. night so they came up and sat in on Friday and, be still O beating heart, let me sing their sister's harmony part with them on Swept Away, the first song on their new record which will be released in the coming month called Mignonette. It'll change yer life and set you straight. That meant alot to me. I hold their music in noble regard and have been significantly inspired to really dig deeper in regards to my writings, just from hanging around the Brothers and their fine compatriots. Good people on the Right side. And I know you know the kind of Right I'm referring to. Till the next time - Dream real and make every moment count.
